Brain Health, Nutrition and Allergies

Nutrition is a very important factor in healthy brain development. When the brain does not have the proper nutrition it will effect mood, behavior and learning. Water is always a key ingredient in health. Hydration is needed for the body to function optimally and for the proper absorption and utilzation of nutrients.  It keeps the balance in the body as it transports nutrients, hydrates and cleanses.  Dehydration will cause physical and mental fatigue as brain cells begin to deteriorate.  Extreme cases of dehydration can cause seizures.

The best food for the brain are foods you are not allergic to.  These foods should not contain MSG or MSG like products like hydrolized soy or hydrolized yeast.  Wheat, milk, corn, aspertame, gliadin and gluten are substances that many people are allergic to but do not know it.  Many people believe for an allergic response to occur you have to sneeze or your stomach hurts.  When the allergens interact with the brain the symptoms can be lethargy, disorentation, brain fog, hallucinations, agitation, rage, panic attacks, seizures, and other neurological effects. You can find more information by doing a youtube search for Dr. Russell Blaylock MD (and vaccinations, excitotoxins, nutrition and the brain, etc).

It is advisable before starting neurofeedback to take a look at the diet.  You may get good results by cleaning up the diet alone.  Brain health start at home.  Fresh fruits and vegetables are important along with a healthy supply of omega 3. I have found a good source to be krill oil.  There are more nutrients that are good for brain health, but I tend to suggest those on an individual basis.  The best nutritional supplements  come from whole food supplements. Standard Process and The Vitamin Code are good sources that I personally use.  The Vitamin Code can be found at Henry's, while Standard Process is provided through your Holistic Health Practitioner.
